National Day of Prayer For Mental Illness Recovery and Understanding

Celebrated during Mental Illness Awareness Week (October 5 through the 11)

Tuesday, October 7, 2008

“The last two years the Weare Christian Church has held a prayer meeting on the National Day of Prayer for Mental Health to raise awareness of those battling mental illness. These times of prayer have brought not only awareness but healing for those in our own congregation. We have grown closer to our Lord and have gained a deeper understanding of His guidance as we have cared for and comforted those who are struggling. God has used our church faithfully in prayer, and praying for the needs of those dealing with mental health issues and those who give support, has broadened our influence in prayer.”

- Pastor Bill Stockhaus, Weare Christian Church

Mental Illness Awareness Week has been celebrated since 1990 when it was established by Congress in recognition of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) efforts to raise mental illness awareness. Thanks to many of you the National Day of Prayer for Mental Illness Recovery and Understanding has become a great success. We hope more places of worship will participate this year.

There is not just one way that this Day of Prayer can be celebrated. We hope someone in your faith community will consider this ministry and find a way to celebrate in a manner that is comfortable for your community. NAMI NH staff and volunteers are available to provide the following resources: Bulletin inserts, Candle Lighting Ceremonies, Interfaith Messages, Responsive Readings, Sermons, Study Guides, Worship Services, Speaker’s Bureau and Information Booklets and Pamphlets.

For more details or to register your faith community as one of the Day of Prayer sites , contact Claudia at 225-5359 ext. 13 or email: cferber@naminh.org.
